I’ll start by saying this spiritual growth can never be over-emphasized. It’s as important as the air you breathe. Why? Others are depending on you for growth. ? You did not see that coming but it’s so true. When you grow spiritually, things become easier for you and that includes preaching the Gospel of Christ.
Spiritual growth is actually never convenient, it takes a lot of time and effort: intentionality, consistency and diligence. They may sound alike but they’re not, let me break them down:
- Intentionality: You have to make up your mind on what you want to do, this involves planning. Set up time for prayer and Bible study and ensure that you have no distractions at said time, inform people around you about this. You can also get an accountability partner to check up on you some minutes before this time to ensure you follow through.
2. Consistency: It’s one thing to plan but a completely different thing to be consistent. Spiritual growth is not a 3-month subscription, it’s a lifetime subscription. There’s no end to it because there’s no end to God’s love, we grow deeper in it each day.
“that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
Ephesians 3:16-19 NKJV
3. Diligence: This is another thing again, it means hard work. Goes well with consistency because consistency involves hard work. Don’t be nonchalant about your spiritual growth.
Another reason for spiritual growth is that it causes you to truly walk in the nature of who you are. Who are you? You’re the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You’ve been made righteous as a believer.
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
II Corinthians 5:21 NKJV
Being righteous means you walk above sin because you know this isn’t your nature, you have the power to overcome sin; to say no to temptation. Note: Temptation is not sin. Jesus was tempted but He never fell, we have that same power in us now. Glory to God!
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,”
Ephesians 3:20 NKJV
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”
Romans 6:1-2 NKJV
Romans 6:1-2 lets us understand that the grace of God in our lives is not a license to sin but the power to live above sin. You might wonder why I’m talking about this, it’s simple. As a growing Christian, especially one who is looked up to by many people, you can’t afford to continually dwell in sin because you never know when someone would need you to pray for them or work a miracle. I’m not saying there are instances that you can’t do them but you won’t. Why? The guilt of sin. You won’t feel good enough to do them.
But here’s the beautiful thing, even if you sin, you can still work a miracle because God lives inside of you. If you sin, confess to yourself who you are, that you’re forgiven and you’re righteous and do not dwell in the fact that you sinned but please remember Romans 6:1-2.
Spiritual growth is ever very important. Prayer, Bible study, fellowship with brethren, evangelism. They are all very important.
Give yourself to spiritual growth and watch how you become far better than the best version of yourself you imagined ?
I love you so much but God loves you so much more.
